How to Hand Wash a Memory Foam Pillow
Generally, pillows filled with down or down alternatives can be cleaned using a washing machine, but memory foam pillows require a different cleaning method. Memory foam pillow care guidelines recommend hand washing only. Follow these steps for a deep clean:
1. Fill a large sink or bathtub with warm water and add a small amount of mild detergent designed for delicate items (about one teaspoon of detergent per gallon of water is recommended).
2. Fully submerge the pillow in the water and gently massage it to create suds and allow the detergent to penetrate the foam. Continue for about ten minutes.
3. Rinse the pillow with clean water until the water runs clear, and gently squeeze the foam to remove excess water. Do not twist or wring the pillow, as this may damage the foam structure.
